A Quick and Easy Guide to
Planning a Wildlife Safari

Step 1: Choose your destination (see destinations for more information)

Best times to go on safari

  • Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda
June through October and mid-December through March. Rainy seasons are late October through mid December and April through May. The cool season is June through August.

  • Botswana, Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia
    April through early October

  • Gorilla and Primate Trekking
Best during the dry seasons of June to October and January through March

  • Cape Town
One of the most beautiful and exciting cities on earth and it is at its best from late September through October.

  • Though wildlife viewing can be great all year round, these are the peak times for best weather and concentrations of animals

Step 2: Select the amount of days you want to be on safari

Best length of time for your safari

  • At least ten nights out on safari.
  • We offer shorter and longer trips to fit your schedule

Step 3: Tell us how many are in your group
Best group size
  • Eight is our average size. More than 14 starts to lose the intimacy. We often have romantic couples or small families. You can bring your own group, or be a part of a few smaller groups, singles or couples.

  • Small groups are our specialty, but Don has also designed and guided groups of 200!

  • Whatever the size, we will put a professional guide for every five travelers.

Step 4: Fill out our Reservation Form

  • One of our safari staff will contact you to discuss your trip.

Our tips for a great safari:

Enjoy a good mix of tented camps, and lodges to get the true safari experience. Don't forget to include time to learn about Africa's cultural heritage, and don't forget about the unique coastal areas of Africa such as Lamu, Zanzibar and the Mozambique coast.

When you contact our information office, it will enable us help you better if you answer the following questions:

  • How many will be traveling with you: their names, ages and contacts.
  • How many days would you like to be on safari?
  • What time of year would you like to travel?
  • What areas would you like to see?
  • What animal species would you like to look for?
  • What traditional people would you like to visit?
  • What style of safari you prefer: camping, lodges, hotels?

If your budget simply won't allow for either luxury tented camps or the best of the small lodges, we can recommend less expensive small lodges, or larger lodges and hotels that are eco-friendly and offer the best value in their price range.
